Digital technologies: a new determinant of health
Digital determinants of health are critical to ensuring equitable healthcare access and outcomes. Unequal access to digital tools can exacerbate disparities, leaving vulnerable populations behind. This article emphasizes that digital technologies should be recognized as a key determinant of health, comparable to income or education. It discusses how weak governance and the dominance of private companies in health data exacerbate inequalities and compromise human rights. The paper advocates for “data solidarity” and the establishment of global standards to ensure the ethical and equitable use of health data.
